Pregnancy Acupuncture in New Plymouth

Pregnancy asks so much of the body. Hormones shift dramatically, often from week to week, and while some women move through it with relative ease, many find parts of it genuinely uncomfortable — nausea, exhaustion, pelvic pain, anxiety, disrupted sleep, or a sense of not quite feeling like themselves. You don’t have to simply put up with it.

I believe in aiming high when it comes to feeling well in pregnancy. Not just getting through it, but genuinely thriving — physically, emotionally, and in how you approach birth. I’ve been supporting women through pregnancy in New Plymouth for over 24 years.

“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers — strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”— Barbara Katz Rothman

Can acupuncture help during pregnancy?

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine offer a gentle, whole-body approach to pregnancy support. Women commonly come to me with pregnancy nausea, fatigue, pelvic girdle pain, back pain, anxiety, insomnia, and breech presentation — as well as wanting general support for a healthy pregnancy.

Whether you’re in your first trimester navigating nausea and fatigue, or in your third preparing your body and mind for birth — there is real support available to you at every stage.

From 35 weeks, sessions often shift toward labour preparation: helping your body soften, your baby find a good position, and your nervous system settle into readiness. I’ll also share acupressure techniques you can use at home and in labour, so you feel informed and empowered going in.

This is care for your whole experience — not just the physical symptoms, but the emotional weight of this time too.

Postpartum recovery — the Fourth Trimester

In Chinese medicine, the weeks after birth are known as the Golden Month — a time in a woman’s life that deserves as much nourishment as her newborn baby. In Western culture this is often rushed past; in Chinese medicine it is considered foundational.

The way you recover after birth shapes your hormones, your energy, your milk supply, and your emotional wellbeing for months and years beyond. Postpartum acupuncture and Chinese herbs support that recovery — gently rebalancing, replenishing, and helping your body find its rhythm again after everything it’s been through.

I offer postpartum acupuncture support from around one to two weeks after birth — in the clinic in New Plymouth, or via video call if that works better for you.

Whether this is your first pregnancy or your fourth, a straightforward experience or one shaped by previous births that didn’t go to plan — there is support here for you. I’d love to hear from you.
